Northwest Vintage Guitars presents a lovely 1969 Martin D35 with a bold voice and great playability. And it has nicely figured Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. Martin designed the D35 with a 3 piece back in order to better utilize Rosewood pieces that were too small to make a traditional Dreadnought with a 2 piece back. The result is a cannon of a Dreadnought that has gone down in history of an iconic tone that has been copied but never duplicated.
The nut measures 1.68", neck depth is .88"-1.01" at the 1st and 12th frets respectively. It's a full C profile with a very faint, almost inperceptible V to the the middle. The neck is straight and the relief is currently set for optimum playability - well within spec. There are a few scratches, dings, and dents as pictured. It remains in excellent playable condition with no dead spots or unwarranted buzzing.
This D35 is set up to play with great low action. There are no cracks or crack repairs that we can find other than a crack through the high E string tuner hole. It doesn't go all the way through and the area is stable and poses no tuning issues. Both pickguards are non-original Martin replacements and very well done. The bridge has been shaved and some neck binding has been replaced with some light overspray on the back of the headstock and neck. It's hard to see. There are some divots in the cowboy chord area that don't affect playability.
