Northwest Vintage Guitars presents a lovely Jose Ramirez 1a Classical from 1977 and featuring Solid Rosewood back and sides with a Cedar top. The Rosewood is dark and the black is deep. Could it be? It was purchased in Spain from Jose Ramirez III in person by the original owner in 1977 and brought to our shop from the estate. There are some documented examples of Brazilian from Ramirez at this time. We're not prepared to declare it so, but it looks and sounds like it is to us and that's all we will say about that. There is no documentation included.
The 1A model was Ramirez's top of the line Concert Classical and remains one of the most iconic guitars of it's class. From Segovia to Atkins, from Paco De Lucia to Sting, the 1A has been the instrument of choice when there is no limits.
The nut measures 53mm, neck depth is .89"-1.03" at the 1st and 10th frets respectively. The neck is straight and the relief is currently providing optimum playability well within spec. 665 mm Scale, no perceptible fret wear, action is 4.5 mm on the low E, 2.5 mm high E. The guitar does have a crack located at the end block area and visible from the exterior. It was caused from shrinkage but is backed by kerfing and the end block. It has been deemed stable and no repair necessary by 2 luthiers.
