Northwest Vintage Guitar brings you an early and very rare Yamaha SG-65 solid body electric from the early 70s. These were Yamaha's first iteration of the SG line and featured a svelty single cut on a Mahogany (Nato) body, Mahogany set neck, and a Rosewood fretboard.  This baby even includes the original 4 latch hardshell case with the Yamaha badge and the keys.

These are Yamaha's own design Humbuckers. 2V, 2T Les Paul style control layout. The Neck measures 25.8 ohms and have a great punchy presence that cleans up well and can pull off sweet woman tones.  The Bridge is at 29.8 ohms and it's so aggressive and articulate.  Not like a Gibson Humbucker.  It hits the amp hard right at the input and yields great overdriven tones even at lower volumes.  We found a magic spot around 3.5 on the tone knob that cleaned up so well.  If you're looking for something a little different than your Gibson or PRS, this may be it.

The nut measures 1.675", she weighs 8.84 lbs.  .86" neck depth at the 1st, .98" at the 12th on a true Slim Taper C carve.  It's a 24.75" scale and we did notice a bit (.005") of a rise in the fretboard around the 15th fret on the bass side but were able to dress out the frets up there in the dusty area, give them a fresh crown and polish, and adjust the working truss rod until the relief is set for optimum playability.  It plays cleanly and effortlessly up and down the hand polished Rosewood fretboard with no dead spots.  Great little player with low action and room to go up or down.
