Northwest Vintage Guitars brings you this clean Weber Deluxe Reverb 22 watt replica with a upgraded Jensen C12N vintage reissue speaker. There's an added Gibson logo, but don't be fooled - it's not a Gibson. These Weber amps were sold as kits and some amp pros were prone to building them and selling them since people swear they sound exactly like a Blackface Deluxe Reverb at a fraction of the price. It makes sense; This amp is based on the old amp designs that have tube rectification, not solid state as we see in the reissues of today. This one is all old school with no modeling, no boost or distortion channel. Just pure Fender clean and edge of break up when you want it. The cabinet is even solid pine dovetail jointed professional cabinetry. The chassis is very heavy duty chromed steel. Top-notch.
We don't know who built this one, but the solders are solid, the components test good, and the tube compliment suits it very well. It's a clean amp with a great warm clean sound that will cut through the mix and pushes well to the edge of breakup. Overall a top-notch sound. We took it to our amp tech and he serviced it and really brought it to life. Here's what he did;
-Replace Tremolo Potentiometer with correct value
-Remount filter capacitors on cap board and remount cap board
-Secure all filter caps with RTV
-Tap Capacitor cover screw holeS
-Secure accessory AC socket in chassis and rewire socket.
-Locate and correct intermittent solder connection on eyelet board.
-Shorten and reroute several signal path wires to avoid cross talk and potential isolation.
-Remove incorrect phase inverter output capacitors and replace with proper .1uF 600v Polyester Capacitor
-Adjust output tube bias to proper level.
-Test tubes, clean controls, switches, and jacks, test unit to verify proper operation.
The Jensen speaker has been reconed even though it's only 16 years old. We took a close look at it and what we see leads us to reason that it was reconed with better materials to perform better and have better power handling capacity. Our amp tech agrees with this assessment. One thing for sure - it sounds fantastic.
