Northwest Vintage Guitars presents an extremely rare Gibson V Bass from 1987.  In 1987 Gibson was looking for a new start with an employee led investment group that had recently acquired Gibson from the Norlin Company.  They were looking to shake things up for the brand and create some new designs to compete head to head with other manufacturers and the boutique market.  There were a few crazy new offerings in 1987 including the U2 Superstrat, the Ovation-like Chet Atkins CGP, and the Gibson V Bass.  Crafted with a solid natural Mahogany body, set Mahogany one piece neck and adorned with black hardware all the way around - it was a departure from the old Gibson offerings.  They were also making their Les Paul reissues and a bastardized version of the Junior, but the Gibson V made a statement.  It announced a new direction at Gibson.  Eventually all these non-typical Gibson models faded into history after Gibson realized they were doing exceptionally well just doing what they've been doing all along - making Les Pauls like they did in the 50's and 60's.

This model featured an Ebony fretboard, 16th fret neck joint, and a pair of "Black Chrome" Humbuckers that are controlled with 2 volumes and a Tone.  Seriously great tone from this setup.   It can be warm and offer room filling lows and it can be articulate and crisp.  It covers a lot of bases, or is that basses?

The nut measures 1.77", neck depth is .88"-.94" at the 1st and 12th frets respectively.  It's a medium C profile with diminishing shoulders as you travel up the neck.  The neck is straight, the truss rod turns in both directions, and the relief is currently set for optimum playability.  The polished frets were installed recently in a re-fret and they have an entire life ahead of them with no play wear and they present as almost new.  22 frets, 34" scale, and a 12" Radius.  There are quite a few scratches, dings, and dents as pictured.  It remains in excellent playable condition with no dead spots or unwarranted buzzing.  Comes safely packed in the hardshell case in the photos, 8 lbs 9 oz.
