Northwest Vintage guitars is stoked to bring you a gem of a hand built Kazuo Yairi.  This beautiful K. Yairi DY28 is basically a hand built Martin template guitar with Solid Rosewood back and sides and a Solid Spruce top. And it's signed on the neck block by the master himself!, Kazuo Yairi.  Like your girl, she had a life before you so get over the professional refret, repaired top cracks, and regular maintenance.   She's approaching 30 years old, but she's as solid as a rock.  It plays, looks and sounds like a Martin with almost 30 years of age on the wood and the rolled Ebony Fretboard edges.  The sound has opened up very nicely.  Bridge has been reattached, frets replaced at some point, Some overspray on the top.  6/64" Low E, 5/64 High E with relief at .010".  Truly a great playing guitar that needs nothing.

The nut measures 1.67" so if you love the idea of owning a D-28 but just can't live iwth the 1.75" wide nut, this could be the answer.  The soft V neck carve is so comfy and accessible.  It's got a great voice with plenty of warm highs and boomy lows.  A great guitar that sets up well and plays great.

Kazuo Yairi was one of the most renowned guitar luthiers in Japan. His long career began as a child when he watched his father building unique handcrafted instruments for local students and musicians. The company expanded under Yairi-san's leadership to include several new models, but always with the tradition of his father and his own background in mind. For example, he never made any electric guitars even though he had been asked many times. He felt it was important to stay with what you know and what you enjoy, and he very much enjoyed building acoustic guitars. His shop has also developed several noted luthiers over the years, many of whom have worked for him for more than 30 years!  Yairi-san passed away in March 2014 leaving his musical legacy to all of us. The Yairi factory lies in the small town of Kani, nestled in the hills north of Nagoya, Japan. Here they have been making guitars for over 80 years.

The factory radiates its legacy of master craftsmanship the moment you step inside. Floors are made of mahogany, with walls built of rosewood tongue and groove, and the furniture itself is hand carved by the luthiers. The amount of naturally seasoned tonewood is legendary and the production line marries time-honored, handmade craftsmanship with modern-day design and processes.
