Northwest Vintage Guitars presents a very rare 1991 Kramer VA-1 Superstrat made by ESP exclusively for the domestic Japanese domestic market. Not a lot were made, very few examples are known. We were very lucky to find this one. ESP made Kramer guitars for the Japanese Domestic and US market in the 80's and early 90's. There were a few models that were made with the Fender shape headstocks in very small runs and sold only in Japan. This is one of those models. There isn't anything definitive in any Kramer catalogs, but the Strat style headstock and B Serial number make a return in the late 80's on select few models in their Japan exclusive lineup. We are calling it the VA-1 since that is what is written in the neck pocket.
This rare beauty features an Alder body and a Maple neck with a dark and colorful Rosewood fretboard. The Schaller style no-name tuners make stringing it to tune a snap and the FR Licensed locking trem keeps it all in tune.
The nut measures 1.67", neck depth is .81"-.91" at the 1st and 12th frets respectively. It's your typical slim oval C profile. The neck is straight, the truss rod turns in both directions, and the relief is currently set for optimum playability. It's about a 25.25" scale and a 10" radius. The Kramer KP-100 pickup is original kit. There is a little wear on the frets but they remain at around 80% and play cleanly with no dead spots. The Floyd Rose stays in tune and isn't worn out like so many. It's a nice complete package that's ready to roll.
Two locking nuts are not original and one is painted black. Scattered faint scratches, small dents, and discoloration as pictured. This guitar remains in very good++ playable condition and comes safely packed in the gig bag in the photos.
