Northwest Vintage Guitars presents a super rare black Kay Recording King Venetian Archtop with a period correct hard case and some cool old case candy. These solid Spruce top gems punch way above their weight and feature a bolt on neck that can be used to adjust the neck angle or convert it to a packable travel guitar. These were made by Kay in the early 30's and this one received a black Lacquer finish and the Recording King label with a pearloid headstock overlay. This one received a fretboard leveling, re-fret, crown and polish as well as a re-glued brace and a top crack repair.
The nut measures 1.87", neck depth is .82"-1.07" at the 1st and 12th frets respectively. It's a big C neck carve. 25.5" scale, 12" radius, 3.6 lbs. The bridge is not original and it features a bone saddle that can be lowered for lower action, but it's set ar 2.5mm onthe low E and 1.7mm on the high E at the moment. Fresh set of D'Adarrio nickel 12-53 bronze strings. Refretted, leveled, crowned, and polished. It plays cleanly up to the body joint with limited buzzing beyond. The neck is straight and it plays great. There are a few scratches, dings, and dents as pictured. It remains in excellent playable condition with no dead spots or unwarranted buzzing. Includes some old Black Diamond string envelopes and some handwritten songs in the photos. There is a hole for a jack plug in the side where a DeArmond soundhole pickup was mounted.
