Northwest Vintage Guitars brings you a very rare spec Yamaha BBX Fretless 4 string Bass with the Bartolini TCT active tone shaping circuit.  The BB Series Bass has been a part of the Yamaha line for 5 decades, but the BBX Basses are not common, and try to find a Bartolini TCT Spec BBX.  This is the one.   Yamaha's quality is well known and they've gained the nickname, "The Gibson of Japan" for a very good reason.  The BBX is basically a BB-3000 with a bolt on neck.  The tonewoods are the same - a solid Alder body mated to a Canadian Maple neck with an Indian Rosewood fretless fretboard.

Bartolini's legendary TCT EQ and Preamp is one of the most popular active EQ of all time.  It's legendary tone shaping abilities have been used by one of the greatest of all time, Marcus Miller.  We are unsure about the year of the bass and Yamaha records are notoriously convoluted.  The 7 digit serial number starts with "80" but Bartolini's preamp was only 2 band until the late 80's.   It is stamped Made in Japan so we know that.  We're guessing it is early 90's to late 2000's based on the components and the presence of 3 band TCTs on other models.   It's also possible that it could be a special order.

The nut measures 1.62", 1st fret depth is .82" growing to .96" at the 12th fret.  It's a very comfy medium C carve.  The Laquered Fretless Fretboard is silky smooth under your fingers.   The added low profile thumb rest is immediately useful.  it's a very well balanced 8.94 lbs.  The back of the neck has been fine sanded and buffed to a Smooth Satin finish.  She has a couple small nicks and scratches but remains in overall very good ++ condition.
