Northwest Vintage Guitars presents a rare early version 1979 Yamaha Super Bass model SB500 with a solid Mahogany Body and a Flamed Maple neck. These early versions feature a consistently thicker neck and better tone woods when compared to their later versions. The pickups are very versatile J-Bass style by Yamaha and read 7.0k ohms at the neck and 7.4k ohms at the bridge. They deliver everything from full warm rumbly lows to honky highs and everything in between.
The nut measures 1.70", neck depth is .90"-.93" at the 1st and 12th frets respectively. It's a very consistent D profile with a flat middle. 34" scale, 10" radius, 9.3 lbs. The frets have been leveled, crowned, and polished here in our luthier's shop and present an enjoyable playing experience. The neck is straight, the truss rod is tight but turns in both directions, and the relief is currently set for optimum playability. Freshly strung with American made 45-105 nickel strings and accurately intonated. There are a few scratches, dings, and dents as pictured. It remains in excellent playable condition with no dead spots or unwarranted buzzing. Comes safely packed and fully insured in the gig bag in the photos.
