Northwest Vintage Guitars presents a rare and funky Billy Dreadnought by Kawase Japan. Established in 1944, KAWASE was the first company to sell Martin guitars in Japan and flourished in the Japanese acoustic guitar industry in the 70's. One of the rarer models by Kawase is the ever illusive Billy Acoustic. Not to be confused with Billy "Custom" or "Deluxe" models, all high quality solid woods went into this hand made guitar. Solid Spruce Top, Solid Rosewood back and sides. I know, I know, there's someone out there ready to say it's technically not a D28, so hold your horses. Japanese designs take features from a few models and mash them together so there's often no direct translation. Think of it as a D28 style construction with a bound dark Rosewood fretboard and headstock. Best of all, it just received a refret from Gabriel's Guitars in Spokane Wa so it's ready for years of reliable use. And check out that vintage patina, the slightly yellow lacquer and binding, the way the satin finish is sinking into the grain.... it's got mojo for days. And it's a sleeper! This is a very recordable sound, no doubt about it. Full, warm, even with warm trebles throughout. Definitely Solid Construction, not semi-solid or laminate. Comes with the period correct hard case pictured. Crack repairs on back and side as pictured. Professionally done and cleated where needed. 2 truss rod cover screws broken in the headstock. There is a spacer under the nut. Great action at 2.5 mm on the low E, 2.0 mm on the high E.
